COURSES FOR CHILDREN

Strengthen autonomy, self-confidence and identity. Enable your child to learn for the fun of learning.

Language learning is a natural process for pre-school age children, and by immerging them in fun and games they are able to learn a second language just as easily as they learn their first. There is no pressure to perform. It is a combination of the child's innate curiosity and their strong desire to communicate that helps the process of language learning. Children who begin learning a foreign language early tend to have more fun, appreciate the language, make faster progress and become more self-confident. Exposing children to a new language at a young age gives them a greater opportunity to listen, acquire new vocabulary more easily and obtain natural pronunciation that most adults find difficult to achieve. The most important aspect of our teaching programme for children is the act of play: knowing how to play is an important factor that can play down the struggle of memorizing a new language and instead make it a fun process. It is important to involve children in fun activities in which the language can be used as an instrument to communicate and not simply a means to an end. For the English language in particular, Language Point has created three tailor-made programmes for young learners:

Hello English!

Learning becomes a game!
3 - 6 years
Once-weekly lessons for nursery school children

First Steps /Stepping Up 1,2

6 - 7 years
Once or twice-weekly lessons for primary school children

Stepping Up 3,4,5,6
8-12 years
Once or twice-weekly lessons for primary and middle school young learners

All our teachers are qualified mother tongue teachers, with a background in educational pedagogy and experience working closely with children. They know how important it is to establish a good emotional and communicative rapport with the children, and by using the Language Point method, which focuses on the child's sensory experience and imitation, they are able to stimulate the child's curiosity in a natural and playful manner whilst enhancing the development of the child's personal experience and abilities.

Our lessons are designed to develop the child's spoken and listening skills. Each lesson focuses on specific vocabulary that the child can identify with, the daily situations they are involved in and their interests, such as: speaking about yourself, about your family, likes and dislikes, the world around you, colours, animals, games, songs and much more. By interacting with a mother tongue teacher the child will be exposed to sounds and words pronounced by a native-speaker and naturally acquire a similar intonation and pronunciation. as well as having the opportunity of finding out about the culture of the language being studied, the habits, the traditions and the festivals.

At the end of the course, our young learners will have reached level A1, Young Learner, of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. After that they will be able to begin a structured path of study and work on all four language skills.
The ensuing path of study, from 8 years upwards, follows a modular planning scheme in regards to its content, but is just as flexible and can be matched to the single child's needs as well as broadening the curricular programme they follow at school. Language Point has successfully tried and tested a flexible path of study for children learning the English language, both on its own premises and in a number of public and/or private schools, who request continuous targeted language interventions by our mother tongue teachers.
