¿Quieres hablar español?

Spanish, or Castilian, is a Romance language. According to a recent research of Ethnologue, Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world, with 570 million speakers.

It is the official language of 21 Countries (Spain, Cuba, Porto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador). In the US, more than 35 million people speak Spanish.

Considered a major language in international affairs and politics, Spanish is one of the official Languages in EU, MERCOSUR, UNESCO, UNO, GATT, I.T.U. and UNIDO.
The demand to learn Spanish has more than doubled in recent years and it is assumed that by 2050 there will be 754 million Spanish speakers worldwide.
Currently, those in the world who study Spanish exceed the figure of 21 million, even though these numbers do not take private institutions into consideration, but only data collected by Istituto Cervantes venues all over the world. For this reason, it is estimated that the number is even 25% higher.

Getting in touch with the Spanish culture and traditions is really exciting: discover and read in the original version the world of Cervantes, de la Vega, Lorca, admire Bequer, Picasso, Velasquez, learn to appreciate even better the films of the great Spanish directors such as Saura, Almodovar and Medem… there are a number of opportunities for personal growth and development.

Five good reasons to learn Spanish

  • It is the fourth most spoken language in the world, after English, Mandarin Chinese and Hindi;
  • It is also the mother tongue of 7% of the world’s population;
  • It is easier for an Italian student to learn Spanish, since it is another Latin language, with a grammatical structure similar to Italian: these languages shares many particular words, idioms and expressions, especially with the Italian dialects spoken in the southern regions;
  • It is the second language in the world used in social networks;
  • It is among the languages of greatest culture, with an ever-increasing influence. Being able to read El Quijote by Miguel Cervantes in the original language, or the works of Allende, Federico García Lorca, Borges, Benito Pérez Galdós, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Lope de Vega, Miguel de Unamuno, Antonio Machado, Francisco de Quevedo, Gabriel García Márquez, or Vazquez-Montalbán is priceless!

Certify Spanish

As with other European languages, it is possible to certify your level of competence in Spanish through examinations.

The most renowned is DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera), launched in 1988 and offered for all of the six CEFR levels. These are the only qualifications issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education of an international character, and are recognized by private companies and for public and private teaching all over the world. DELE exams are regulated by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

DELE exams dates are the same all over the world and it is possible to take the exam in Authorized venues.
Language Point prepares students to successfully obtain Spanish language certifications.
